Decisions & Statistics
There is no such thing as good decision or bad decision. There is calculated decision and the result might turn as you expected vs not.
There is no such thing as good decision or bad decision. There is calculated decision and the result might turn as you expected vs not. Usually this is influenced by not having far vision, and this is not because you won’t see further but just that you can’t.
A quick and easy example would be switching lanes in traffic because your lane is moving slow, but in turn after a kilometer, there is a traffic congestion in the lane you shifted to and the other lane is continuously moving such that you can’t even switch the lane. You could have not anticipated that at any point, and the result might be just opposite half the time.
Your decision can benefit you or do the exact opposite, and you have no choice but to make a decision. You can only realise things in retrospect so if your outcome is not what you expect, there is a really good chance that you start blaming yourself for the decision taken at that moment. But again, remember that the other option might just turn out just as bad or worse half the time statistically.
Rule following may get you good marks, but everything new in the world is built by people who defy the odds and tell the world to fuck off and do everything their way. There is a good chance that these people might fail and statistically, almost everyone do. But the person who succeeds shows way to the people in the future by making sure that the odds and rules can be altered.
Ideally I should have never broke open the cassette player and saw what it looked like inside. If I was simply following rules and made the decision not to open it, I would never have been adamant to keep it back and I would never have been interested in how things actually work internally. Because of that, I realised as much as I love to be the consumer, I want to be the producer too. And a damn good one at that.
That little feat inspired me to not look back at the broken things but start to fix them anyway possible, or just get a new one after a certain amount of effort. There is a high chance that you will end up not fixing it the first time, but the mind to fix it stays with you for a long time and that makes you stand out.
